A Rich History
Opened on September 1, 1960, Edgar Allan Poe Middle School is one of the very first intermediate schools opened by Fairfax County Public Schools. Poe is built on land notable for being one of the highest points of elevation in Fairfax County. During the Civil War, the Union Army used this land as a campsite.
Famous Names
You probably know a few former Poe students! Before he played in the Super Bowl, former Buffalo Bills kicker Scott Norwood walked Poe’s hallways, as did UCLA women’s soccer coach Amanda Cromwell. Also, the Force is strong at Poe — actor Mark Hamill, who plays “Star Wars” hero Luke Skywalker, was a student here, too!
Awesome After-School Programs
From Dungeons & Dragons to Flag Football, there’s something for everyone at Poe! Students enjoy a wide variety of after-school activities. Some, like the National Junior Honor Society, STEM Club, and Homework Club, complement classroom lessons. The Running Club, Volleyball Club, and the “Swole Squad” Weightlifting Club encourage students to get fit! Other clubs help students explore their artistic talents, such as Raven Theatre and Photography Club.
