English Language Arts

Outcomes

By June 2025, the SOL pass rate for our students with disabilities will increase by 10%.       

Strategies

  • Use formative integrated reading and writing tasks (i.e. reading responses, annotations)
  • Increase opportunities to explicitly teach vocabulary using evidence-based methods (i.e. semantic feature analysis, analyzing word parts, Frayer model, defining words in context, semantic mapping, etc.)
  • Utilize small groups and intervention to increase opportunities for students who need more practice to master standards

Success in Algebra Before High School 

Outcomes

By the end of the 2024-2025 school year, the percent of 8th grade students enrolled in Algebra 1 or higher will increase from 36% to at least 48.3%.

By June 2025, the percentage of 8th grade students who qualify for a verified credit in Algebra 1 prior to the start of 9th grade will increase by 8%.

Strategies:

  • Increase teacher's implementation strategies related to Shift 8: from looking for correct answers towards revealing student thinking.
  • Increases students' self-efficacy around the ability to be successful in mathematics.
  • Increase systems of support during the school day, after school and summer to help students achieve success in mathematics.

Science

Outcomes

By June 2025, the school will achieve a 70% adjusted pass rate on the Science SOL.                

Strategies

  • Increase opportunities for students to develop and apply disciplinary literacy skills of reading, writing, critical thinking, and discourse.
  • Increase student access to high quality science instruction through sufficient time on the master schedule and use of up-to-date FCPS curriculum.

Chronic Absenteeism 

Outcomes

By the end of the 2024-2025 school year, Poe staff will utilize Tier 1 programming and targeted interventions to reduce chronic absenteeism by 5% or lower as measured by number of full day absences.             

Strategies

  • Teachers will promote student engagement and create a welcoming classroom environment by modeling social and emotional competencies in their interactions with students.
  • MTSS Schoolwide and Site Intervention teams analyze attendance along with behavior and wellness data bi-monthly to identify students in need of Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions.

By June 2025, the percent of students with disabilities who pass the math SOL exams will increase by 12%.

By June 2025, the percent of Hispanic students who pass the math SOL exams will increase by 7%.

By June 2025, the percent of Economically Disadvantaged students who pass the math SOL exams will increase by 5%.

By June 2025, the SOL pass rate for our students with disabilities will increase by 10%. 

Strategies

  • (MATH) Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction, strategies to monitor and reflect on problem-solving, and other components of effective mathematics intervention.
  • Increase teacher implementation of explicit instruction and other components of effective decoding and encoding and making sense of stretch texts in literacy instruction to support foundational reading gaps.
  • Increase teacher knowledge of effective strategies and lesson planning to universally support all students, especially multilingual and special education students, enhancing their skills and learning outcomes.
