Attendance Requirement (Policy 2232.1)
Absences during school hours shall be considered excused absences for the following reasons:
- illness
- death in the family
- medical/dental appointment
- observance of a religious holiday
- any reasons for which the principal considers an exemption from attendance to be in the best interest of the student
Absences
If your child will be late to school or absent from school, please call the Attendance line at (703) 813-3838 to excuse the late arrival/absence. You will hear a recorded message asking for your name, your student's name (please spell your child's name) and grade, the date, and the reason for the absence.
Please do not call the main office to report a student absence.
Pre-Arranged Absences
Planned absences of 3 or more days must be pre-arranged.
Getting School Work
Please contact your child's counselor or the teachers directly if you are requesting work for a child who is sick and will be out of school for more than 3 days (not a prearranged absence). Teachers have 24 hours to gather the work. The requested work will be located in the main office for pick-up. If your child will be absent less than 3 days, please refer to the teacher's blackboard site for the homework assignments. Please contact the teacher(s) directly if you have any questions or if you need further clarification.
In the event of emergencies requiring an extended absence, please notify the attendance and your child's counselor.
Early Check-Out
Early notification will cut down on your waiting time! Please call the Attendance line or send a note with your child if he/she needs to leave early. Please remember to include the check-out time; not the appointment time! He/she should report to Attendance first thing in the morning of the early check-out. Your child will receive a pass for the needed dismissal time.
